Raven's Bane Halloween Card...

Hello friends!  I'm happy you've stopped by today, I'm sharing another card I made for the Tim Holtz Sizzix Halloween release.  If you missed Tim's Sizzix Halloween Facebook Live Event, you can watch it here.  I made this card using the Sizzix Tim Holtz Feather and Ravens Thinlits die set and the Poison Texture Fade.  I'll walk you through how I put it together.
To start with, cut a piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock 4.25 X 5.5.  Squeeze a couple drops of Twisted Citron Distress Paint onto a non-stick craft sheet, and lightly mist the paint with water using Distress Sprayer. Press the Distress Mixed Media Heavystock into the paint mixture until covered.  Spritz a little more water onto heavystock, to get color moving.  Then dry with heat tool.

Item #662371
(A little forewarning, this will stain your Texture Fade and brayer)  Put a little black gesso onto a non stick craft sheet.  Roll a mini brayer through black gesso till coated.  Quickly brayer gesso onto left side of Tim Holtz Sizzix Poison Texture Fade.  Working quickly while black gesso is still wet, lay colorized side onto gesso and carefully close the texture fade.  Then run through die cut machine.
Lift Distress Mixed Media Heavystock from Texture Fade, then dry Heavystock with heat tool.  Cut off excess area around Poison Texture Fade, so it looks more like a ticket.  Then apply a coat of Distress Collage Crazing Medium to embossed surface with Distress Collage Brush.  Let air dry, very important to not apply heat.  I found that even scrubbing would not remove the black gesso from Texture Fade, but not to worry.  I used a couple of alcohol prep pads on the Texture Fade, to clean off black gesso and came right off.  Give it a rinse in fresh water and dry, then your set for next time.  It's still going to stain a little, but its clean.  You can also use Archival Ink or Distress Paint for this technique, in place of the black gesso if you would like.
Cut 2 pieces of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock 4.25 X 5.5.  Apply a thin layer of white gesso to both pieces of heavystock and dry with heat tool.  Apply a thin layer of Distress Collage Matte Medium to 1 of the gessoed heavystocks and dry with heat tool.  Then set aside.
Squeeze a couple drops of Black Soot Distress Paint onto a non-stick craft sheet, and lightly mist the paint with water using Distress Sprayer. Press the gessoed Distress Mixed Media Heavystock into the paint mixture until covered.  Spritz a little more water onto heavystock, to get color moving.  Then dry with heat tool.  To add more distress, pick up droplets of color off the non-stick craft sheet with Distress Mixed Media Heavystock, blotting to pick up the color (not swiping).  Then dry with heat tool.  Apply a thin layer of Distress Collage Matte Medium and dry with heat tool.  This insures a really nice surface for Distress Crayons to glide easily across and blend beautifully.
This new Tim Holtz Sizzix Thinlits Die Set 4PK - Feather & Ravens
Item #662376 is so awesome!!!
Die cut one of each of the Raven's from the black soot colorized heavystock.  Then die cut 3 branches and 3 feathers from the gessoed heavystock.
Using Black Soot, Walnut Stain and Gathered Twigs Distress Crayons, swipe onto non stick craft sheet.  Pick up color with finger and smudge onto branches, working lightest to darkest in color.  Repeat process using Wilted Violet and Black Soot Distress Crayons to color Ravens and Feathers.  Then dry with a heat tool.
Swipe Black Soot Distress Crayon onto embossed Poison card and smear color into recessed areas using your finger.  Using a dry cloth, swipe color off of raised portions of card.  For really stubborn areas, careful use a baby wipe, then dry with a heat tool.
Further apply color to raised portions of Poison card using Twisted Citron and Carved Pumpkin Distress Crayons.  If you have applied too much color to a particular area just use dry cloth or baby wipe, then dry with heat tool.
Cut a piece of Distress Mixed Media Heavystock 4.25 X 5.5.  Adhere a sheet of vintage book paper to heavystock using Distress Collage Matte Medium.  Dry with heat tool.  Apply a light wash of white gesso to vintage book paper, then dry with heat tool.  Apply Distress Collage Crazing Medium, using Distress Collage Brush over dried gesso and air dry.  I just love the super tiny cracks from the crazing.
After crazing had dried I adhered a few small pieces of vintage book paper, some Idea-ology Postal Design Tape (the blue grid) and a Vial Label using Distress Collage Matte Medium where needed. Then dry with heat tool.  Then added some shading using Hickory Smoke, Walnut Stain and Black Soot Distress Crayons.  Swiping color on card front and smudging with finger.
Before assembling card, water down a little white gesso using the Distress Sprayer. Pick up gesso with Distress Splatter Brush. Then pulling bristles back and releasing, splatter white gesso onto card front. Then dry with Heat It tool.  I stitched around card front and distress with a bone folder.  Then attached to black kraft card base.
I attached Poison card, vintage book scraps and branches to card front using liquid adhesive.  The Ravens and Feathers were attached to card using foam squares for added dimension.

I hope you enjoyed todays Raven's Bane Halloween card!  You can find the supplies I've used via the links below.  If you have any questions please let me know I love your comments, I truly appreciate each and everyone of them!  As always thanks for stopping by and I'll see you next time!  xx

  5. Bobbi your card was a stand out for me amongst all the great halloween examples Tim previewed. I was really intrigued by the technique you used on the ravens & feathers. I presumed you used distress oxide inks. Thanks so much for your tutorial. I was totally wrong! Am inspired to try your method. Thankyou.
