The Witch Is In...

Hello my blogging friends, here is a little spooky goodness for you!  "Fall is in the Air", that is the continued theme Challenge over at Inspiration Journal.  I  decided to do a Halloween themed tag for my inspiration.  Halloween is always so much fun and I really enjoy getting to create fun spooky projects!
To start with I used a #8 manila tag.  I used spiced marmalade and rusty hinge distress paint to add color to the tag.
It's important to use the distress paint on this project rather than the stain or the ink because the distress paint is permanent after it dries.  The embossing paste has a lot of moisture to it so it would react to the stains and inks before it's dried.
Now you're going to take the Gothic layering stencil and spread a thin layer of black embossing paste over your colored tag.  Pull the stencil off and wash the stencil and spreading tool immediately, so the paste doesn't dry on it.  Let your tag completely dry before you go on to the next step and it's going to take a little while depending on how thick your layer is.
In the meantime you can cut your ornament frame and graveyard out of Grungeboard.   Paint the scrollwork on the frame with mowed lawn and peeled paint distress paints and let dry.  For the inside mirror portion of the frame I used brushed pewter distress crackle paint.  After your scrollwork frame is dry, brush a coat of clear rock candy distress crackle paint over the top.  After your crackle paint is completely dry, run some black soot distress stain over-the-top then soak up any excess liquid with a towel and dry with a heat tool.
Stamp the cat, witches hat and broom from Tim Holtz's mini blueprints #7, then color and cut out.  Cut out a few pieces from your graveyard grungeboard and paint with black soot distress paint.  After dried take Tim Holtz's sanding grip and sand off some of the paint to expose the grunge.  Color that exposed grunge with some walnut stain distress ink and a blending foam.  Cut out a couple of trees using Tim Holtz Halloween Shadows die from Kraft Glassine.  Use some pebble alcohol ink to grunge up the enameled plaque.  Dye some crinkle ribbon with seedless preserves and a little bit of walnut stain  distress stains.  All that's left to do is assemble your tag!

Exciting News...A New Journey!

Hi everyone, I've got exciting news!  I have been invited to join the Inspiration Emporium Design Team!  Words can not describe how excited I am, what an honor, it is going to be a wonderful and exciting journey!  They have an incredibly talented design team, I would love it if you would stop on over at the Inspiration Journal and give them a warm welcome, you will find new and current team members.  "Fall is in the Air" that is September's theme Challenge over at the Inspiration Journal  you can enter fall themed projects and one lucky winner will be given a very generous $50 gift credit, to spend at Inspiration Emporium.   I decided to do a fall themed tag as my project.   I love fall it's my favorite season, hot apple cider, carving pumpkins, hay rides and the COLORS,  what's not to love!
I started out laying down color from some of the brown distress stains on my nonstick craft sheet,  misting with water and then picking up the color on a plain #8 manila tag. Using a heat tool to dry the wet color on the tag.   Continue to pick up the color to achieve splotches, drying as you go along.   Stamp woodgrain with walnut stain distress ink onto tag.   Cut a 5 x 5.5" piece of manila card stock.   Laydown colors of your choice of distress stains onto nonstick craft sheet for your leaves.  Mist with water, then pick up the color onto plain manila card stock,  dry with heat tool.  Continue to pick up the color to achieve splotches and dry with heat tool.  Cut out Kraft Glassine and colored leaves  using the Tim Holtz Tattered Leaves die.  Attach some sticky back canvas to a piece of manila card stock and stamp the acorn two times with jet black archival ink.  Cut the whole acorn out of the first image and then just the top out of the second image.  Shade with walnut stain distress ink and an ink blending tool.  Layer the top of acorn with foam adhesive.   Shade all paper pieces with walnut distress ink and blending tool.   Dye some crinkle ribbon with distress stains,  after dried tie into a bow.  Bend and wrinkle leaves to achieve a more realistic look.   Glue everything in place with some strong adhesive.  I hope you've enjoyed my tag, you can find all the products that I used and more at Inspiration Emporium!  Thanks for stopping by and I'll see you next time!

Practical Scrappers Scrap Your Stash Blog Hop!

Hi everyone, hope you're having a great summer!   School is back in session and fall will be right around the corner,  which is my favorite season of the year!  It's time for Practical Scrappers Scrap Your Stash August Blog Hop!  You should have arrived from Wendy's Blog - if you didn't you may want to go back and check out all of the wonderful inspiration!   I decided to do something a little different, I made an ATC (Artist Trading Card) for the hop.
I stamped one of the gals images (from below) with Jet Black Archival Ink on 140lb watercolor paper.
Dina Wakley Media - All the Gals - MDR41290
(all of Dina's stamps ROCK!!!)
Then I  extended the image to create more of a body with the head using a Fude Ball pen from Ranger (it's waterproof).   This pen is awesome if you do any type of mixed media work too.
I used a combination of Koi watercolors and Neocolor 11 watercolor crayons to color the background and the stamped image, but you could use whatever you have on hand.

I highlighted a few areas with a white gel pen and also used some vintage music paper.   For a little more detail I dug into my stash and added some old rub ons to the background and to her top.  Now for a finishing touch I added a small heart and stamped the word "worthy" from the stamp set.  My little ATC will eventually end up either in my art journal or on a card.  Now, it's time to hop on over to Wendi's Blog!  Here is the complete list of Practical Scrappers blog hoppers, so you don't miss out on any of the fun!
